Why I Teach
My name is Chelsey Feierfeil and I teach Special Education. I started my teaching career as an Instructional Para Professional in 2010 and moved into teaching in 2015. One day I was looking for an extra job and became a substitute Para-professional. From the first time I stepped foot into the classroom, I knew I was ready for a career change. I get to go to work everyday and feel like I am not working at all because I absolutely love what I do. I teach a K-2 Mild/Moderate class at Crafton Elementary with an emphasis in speech and social skills.
I teach because I love it. I enjoy the day to day challenges that come with teaching in special education. I get the privilege every day of working with amazing children who see life differently. If I am lucky they will even share a little bit of their world with me. I want my students to know that they are cared for and someone believes in them, and that they are capable of achieving amazing things in life.
Teaching in a K-2 classroom is a very unique experience. Many of the families I work with are new to special education and the IEP process. As a K-2 teacher it is my job to help these families learn how to navigate through the special education world. I also help the families walk through the stages of acceptance when coming to terms with their children's limitations and strengths. It is a wonderful and emotional journey that I am proud to be a part of.

I strongly encourage all of my parents to register on our class remind.com website. In this day and age it can be difficult to connect and remind.com makes that easier. Using this app parents and teachers can message each other about upcoming events or classroom concerns.
